Jansen managed to secure a last minute permit to the Coyote Buttes Wilderness Area of Arizona, home of the famed "Wave" formation. Permits are awarded, despite some dubious legality, to only 20 people per day to access the Northern Coyote Buttes region. The Wave has become a ubiquitous icon of Southwestern photography and thus, the BLM feels that strict regulation of the wilderness region is necessary to sustain the delicate desert ecosystem.

Though images of the Wave have become cliché in landscape photography, Jansen felt he should visit the area and see what unique perspectives he might find of the smooth sandstone formations. New images are in the Colorado Plateau, Intimate Landscape, and Black and White, collections.
